Sound Engineering 101 in one book April 24, 1999 30 out of 30 found this review helpful
If you are going to regularly use Sound Equipment, you want this book. Reading this book will enable you to learn 3 things: 1) How sound equipment works 2) How to set up and operate it 3) The basics of electricity and sound physics. If you master the information contained in this book you will be a very effective engineer.
A must have for anyone interested in audio engineering July 18, 1998 32 out of 33 found this review helpful
This book is like my second Bible. I am a studio engineer and a sound reinforcement technician. I have read it from cover to cover several times and would instantly recommend this book to anyone who works in the industry or is interested in learning about pro audio.
The Live Sound and Recording Bible December 21, 2001 J.F. Quackenbush (SeaTac, WA United States) 41 out of 45 found this review helpful
There aren't many things that recording engineers agree on. Sure we all like Neumann microphones, Neve Mic Pre's, and Studer 2 inch machines, but when it comes to things that the average studio can afford, there is much dissention. That is not the case with this book. Without fail, every single audio engineer I've met learned SOMETHING from reading the Sound Reinforcement handbook. Collected in these pages is the wisdom of a generation of Audio Engineers, and given that our field is one that is so much based on oral tradition, a book like this is invaluable for someone who doesn't have the time or inclination to learn things in the traditional way by hanging around in recording studios working for free. If you want to do anything in audio technology it would behoove you to learn this book backwards and forwards, because it contains between it's covers one of the most thorough and balanced presentations ever written on the topic. A great book.
clear and specific December 17, 2004 demomo 23 out of 25 found this review helpful
I've used or tried to use at least a dozen books on this subject and this one is far and away the most helpful I have come across. The presentation breaks the subject down into separate paragraphs and addresses them, so you're not wading through a lot of information you don't need to get to what you do need. A lot of technical guides tend to wander around, working from the general to the specific, but this one aims at answering specific questions and keeps the generalities in their own place. Well illustrated and organized.
Must have for anyone dealing with sound reinforcement June 1, 2000 Chuck Swindoll, Jr. (Dallas, TX) 17 out of 18 found this review helpful
This book will take you to the next level no matter where you are in audio. From beginners to advanced/experienced sound guys, this book will have knowledge to offer you. Simple enough for the layman to understand, and thorough enough for an electrical engineer to gain a better understanding of sound, electronics, and acoustics. Also, if you are a church struggling with room acoustics or sound reinforcement problems, this book will not only help you find the source of your problems, but more importantly, how to solve them.
